Privacy
This site collects the minimum it needs to function. Here’s what that means in practice.
What’s collected
- Newsletter subscribers: first name and email address, only if you subscribe. Stored in my own Supabase database. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
- Email delivery: sends happen via Amazon SES. Bounce and complaint notifications are recorded in my database for list hygiene — I don’t use them for any other purpose.
- Server logs: standard web server access logs (IP, user agent, timestamp, page). Held by Cloudflare Pages. I don’t analyse them beyond occasional error checking.
- No analytics, no tracking scripts, no advertising.
Legacy data
Between 2010 and 2024, this site ran on WordPress. Blog posts from that era have been migrated here, along with the comments posted on them (author names, dates, and comment text). Comment email addresses are stored as hashes only, not in plaintext.
If you commented on an old post and would prefer your name be removed from the archived comment, email me at hello@gideonbanks.com and I’ll remove it within 7 days.
Old newsletter subscribers were asked to re-confirm their subscription before receiving any new email. If you didn’t re-confirm, your email address is no longer in the subscriber list.
Third parties
- Supabase — database hosting. Their privacy policy.
- Amazon Web Services (SES) — email delivery. Their privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — hosting and DNS. Their privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — fonts are self-hosted via Next.js, so no data is shared with Google when you visit this site.
Your rights
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime via the link in any email.
- Email hello@gideonbanks.com to request deletion of any personal data I hold on you, including archived comment names.
Updates
I’ll update this page if the above changes. Last updated April 2026.
